Churro (she is sweet, sugar & cinnamon) is a 17-month-old spayed female Mountain Cur mix who has spent the past year with us at Pup Assist LLC building a strong foundation in obedience, socialization, therapy work, and scent detection. She is one of those dogs that is hard not to fall in love with.
Churro is extremely affectionate and loves to snuggle with people and dogs alike. She is smart, eager to work, and motivated by food, toys, and affection. She has excellent on- and off-leash obedience, a very reliable recall, and is fully house-trained and crate-trained. She also has plenty of personality. Churro enjoys playing fetch, has her goofy moments, and will try to start a game with just about every dog she meets. She is great with children, comfortable with baths, enjoys being brushed, and settles well in the home.
For the past six months, Churro has participated in Toddler Reading Time at our local library, where she continues gaining valuable experience around children and community environments. She has also trained alongside our certified therapy dog, Alice, as part of her therapy-dog development.
Churro also has a strong nose-work foundation. She is currently indicating on black powder in a four-box training scenario. We intentionally stopped her detection training at this point so her future owner can decide what direction to take her. Continuing with black powder is an option, or she can be transitioned to another target odor with additional training.
This makes Churro a unique opportunity for two different types of homes:
1. $8,000 – Churro at her current training level, with the new owner completing her nose-work training.
2. $10,000 – Pup Assist LLC will complete her nose-work training on one target odor of the buyer’s choice.
**Handler training is also available for new owners or agencies.
Churro would make an outstanding companion for someone simply looking for an exceptionally well-started family dog, but she also has the intelligence, motivation, confidence, and training foundation for someone wanting to continue developing a working K9.
One of the primary missions of Pup Assist LLC is to take shelter dogs, give them the structure, training, socialization, and opportunities they need, and build a foundation that helps ensure they never return to the shelter system. Churro represents exactly what that mission is about. She came to us needing an opportunity. Today, she is a well-rounded, affectionate, trained young dog with a tremendous amount of potential. And yes — she gives some pretty amazing snuggles
