At Pup Assist, we believe in the power of the canine nose. Located on 16 beautiful acres in Walkerton, Indiana, our mission is to develop reliable, skilled scent detection and search and rescue (SAR) K9 teams that make a real difference in our community. (We only teach trailing and do not offer rescue classes).  As a veteran-owned and operated business, we combine military discipline, professional dog training expertise, and a genuine passion for working dogs to deliver top-tier training for handlers and their canine partners.

Whether you’re looking to train a scent detection dog for narcotics, explosives, bed bugs, or mold—or you’re seeking to join as a volunteer trailing team—Pup Assist is your trusted resource. We support local K9 SAR efforts with EMA and fire stations, offer progressive training programs, and provide ongoing support for both new and experienced handlers.

Our classes are designed around real-world scenarios, using positive reinforcement and proven methods to build confidence and success in every team. From group courses and private lessons to certification programs, Pup Assist is committed to helping every dog and handler reach their highest potential. 

We adopt dogs from area shelters with personalities that match what we need to train for.  Therapy dogs must be non agressive and have a loving and calm nature while dogs that show they have a 'nose that knows' can be trained for trailing or other scent work.  Check out our DOGS page to see available dogs for purchase or for hire!
